Do I need any experience to try sandboarding?
None at all. Sandboarding Agadir style is far easier to learn than snowboarding — sand is slower and much softer to land on, so beginners are usually riding down on their own within a few minutes.
Your guide shows you how to stand, steer and stop before your first run, then picks the right slope on the Timlalin dunes for your confidence. Falling over is part of the fun.
Is it suitable for children and families?
Yes — this is one of our easiest trips and a favourite with families. There is only about 3 km of walking on soft sand, no climbing, and children from age 7 are welcome.
Children often pick sandboarding up faster than their parents. Those who would rather not ride can still build sandcastles, run down the dunes and take photos.
What time do we leave, and how long does the trip take?
There are two departures every day: 9:30 am and 2:30 pm. The whole trip lasts about 4 hours, including the drive north along the Atlantic coast to the Timlalin desert and back.
The afternoon departure is the one to choose if you want softer light for photographs; the morning one is cooler in summer.
What is included in the price, and what should I bring?
The price of €40 per person covers round-trip transport from Agadir or Taghazout, your local guide, the sandboard and all equipment, plus Moroccan snacks and mint tea in the dunes. Groups of six or more pay €36 each.
Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water. Wear clothes you don't mind getting sandy, and shoes you can slip off easily — most people ride barefoot.
Where is the Timlalin desert, and is it really like the Sahara?
Timlalin lies north of Agadir along the Atlantic coast, a short drive from the city. It is not the Sahara — it is a pocket of golden dunes right beside the ocean, which is exactly what makes it unusual: you get desert sand and sea views in the same frame.
